Reducing Water Wastage in the UK

The UK Water Minister, Huw Irranca-Davies, was fulsome in his support for Waterwise and its work at a Waterwise event for water companies held in the House of Commons on 14th October 2009.

The Minister said that “Defra enjoys a strong and positive working relationship with Waterwise, and I am glad to support the valuable work they are doing on promoting water efficiency.” He also singled out several areas of Waterwise’s work for particular praise: its role on the Water Saving Group, its Evidence Base for Large-scale Water Efficiency in Homes, the Waterwise Marque, Waterwise’s Annual Conference, and its work with water companies on retrofitting and behaviour change, as well as its role in Defra’s Act on CO2 campaign focussing on water use, and its Greener Living Fund patnership retrofitting project in three areas of England, working with water companies and other partners, which he said he was looking forward to seeing the results of. The Minister went on to say that “The work that Waterwise and its key partners are doing supports and complements our shared vision of a future where water, our most precious resource, is valued and conserved.”

Matthew Taylor MP, who hosted the event, said that he is “a strong believer in the work that Waterwise does” and that “it’s been a fantastic example actually of an industry-led initiative that has helped shape the agenda for helping people save water”.
