The McDermid family from West Calder, and the 1st Clanfield Scouts Group in Hampshire have beaten stiff competition to win the public vote in the prestigious Future Friendly Awards, both receiving a prize worth £10,000 to continue their excellent work and to carry out an 'eco make-over'. The award ceremony took place at Kew Gardens in London on 8th April and the winners were announced by celebrity Kacey Ainsworth.The Future Friendly Awards is a nationwide search for Communities and Families who are making a real difference by championing sustainability. This year’s Awards have seen hundreds of entries, from individuals to communities to entrepreneurial new businesses, all demonstrating the inspiring work being done to help improve the world around us. The McDermids were one of five families to have been shortlisted for the Future Friendly Family Award (new for 2010 to celebrate the 3rd year of the Awards), with a further Future Friendly Community Award being presented to the 1st Clanfield Scouts Group in Hampshire. The winners were chosen by a public vote online, where each family and community shortlisted had a short film made to highlight the impact of their efforts.
