Water efficiency products

When Waterwise launched in 2005, there were a handful of water efficient showerheads on the market; now there are dozens. The market has expanded quite a bit, but there is still a long way to go – especially in terms of influencing shoppers to demand and choose water efficient products.
Our research work in this area focuses on the following:
-
Incentivising product users – how can we influence shoppers to choose efficient? One approach is water efficiency labelling; we did a review in 2007 of labels in existence around the world.
-
Ensuring satisfaction – a water efficient showerhead should provide the same showering experience as a higher flow shower. Under the Evidence Base, we’re investigating people’s responses to water efficiency retrofit devices in order to inform future water efficiency initiatives.
-
Alternatives – is there a role for rainwater harvesting and/or greywater recycling? We’re working with partners to investigate options in more detail.
-
