Southern Water and metering

Meeting future demand

In a programme which will last until 2015, Southern Water is installing more than 500,000 water meters across Sussex, Hampshire and Kent as part of its long-term plans to secure water resources for its customers in the South East of England.

The South East region has been classed by the UK government as an area of ‘water stress’. Population growth will continue to increase the demand for water, whilst at the same time climate change is likely to mean drier summers and more frequent droughts. That means water resources will need to stretch further.

When meters are being installed, Southern Water is providing customers with detailed advice, information and support on saving water, energy and money. This includes providing free water and energy saving devices.
