Waterwise is acknowledged as the leading UK authority on water efficiency and is regularly quoted and consulted by UK governments and regulators.

Vision

In the context of climate change and population growth (and changing patterns of use), our vision is of

  • an economy and society where water efficiency is mainstreamed

  • large-scale retrofits having a significant impact on the supply-demand balance in the water industry

  • a regulatory framework which incentivises more demand management, including working with partners in other sectors such as energy

  • a water meter in every home, supported by social tariffs to support vulnerable customers and advice and retrofitting help

  • water efficiency included in energy efficiency retrofitting programmes and social housing standards

  • water efficiency delivering its full potential in the green economy and adaptation to climate change

Waterwise's White Paper, published in July 2010, sets out proposals in more detail. Many of the proposals set out here are now underway or reflected in government and regulatory strategies and documents.

Waterwise views on current issues

Waterwise's Policy Director, Nicci Russell, sets out here in a Soapbox clumn for Utility Week how drought is an opportunity for more water efficiency.

Waterwise sets out below its view on current issues:
