Groups and Networks
Waterwise is a member of a number of groups and networks:
Waterwise is part of @qua, a thematic network under the CIP-ICT PSP Programme of the European Commission. The Programme aims at stimulating innovation and competitiveness through the wider uptake and best use of ICT by citizens, governments and businesses, particularly Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
In November 2006, Waterwise, working with 9 other non-governmental organisations, launched the Blueprint for Water – a ten-point plan for water by 2015, for government, regulators and the water industry. Since the launch, Blueprint for Water has issued regular progress reports, which can be found on the Blueprint for Water website.
The current system for charging water in England and Wales is not designed for encouraging efficient use of water or supporting those who need help paying their bills. Fairness on Tap is a coalition of organisations calling for the government to set out a strategy to install water meters in at least 80% of England where there is the greatest pressure on the freshwater environment and people's pockets, by 2020.
Although the water supply in Scotland is not currently under threat, there could be a problem in the future is action is not taken now. The network is now looking to build on the momentum and develop more water efficiency projects in Scotland.
The UK Water Research and Innovation Partnership is composed of private, public and third sector bodies, convened to provide leadership and to facilitate co-ordination of water research and innovation initiatives concerned with UK and global water security. As well as being a member of the partnership, Waterwise leads the Water Use action group.
Waterwise is a strategic partner of the Water Efficiency in Buildings Network run by the University of Brighton, funded by Defra. The network takes an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems of unsustainable water consumption in the built environment.
The Water and Energy Network aims to be a forum for discussion, innovation and collaboration around the links between water and energy.
